Blackjack is an interesting card game. This game was invented by the French people. The original French version of blackjack is called “Vingt-et-un”. Vingt-et-un is 21 in French. This game originated around 1700 A.D. and has grown to become one of the most favored casino games of players all over the world.

The game rules are very simple to understand. This is one reason for its fame. The goal of the game is to obtain a hand value nearest to 21 without exceeding it. If the hand value exceeds 21 it is a bust. The value of the cards is given below:

• Cards from 1 to 10 are counted as per their face value
• The value of Jack, King, and Queen is ten
• Ace could be valued as 1 or 11.Soft ace, is the term used to denote the Ace which is valued as 11. Hard ace denotes the Ace which is valued as 1

You play this game with the dealer. After placing the bets you get two cards. These are face-up cards. The dealer is provided with two cards, one is displayed and the other faces down. It is up to you to decide whether to use the present cards or receive additional cards to get a total closer to 21. It is significant to note that on exceeding 21 you “bust”. Once you have finished the second card of the dealer is shown. If the dealer’s card total is 17 or higher, additional card is not permitted, as per house rules. In case the dealer’s card total is up to 16, the dealer is permitted to receive another card.

Terms used in Blackjack

Even Money: In case you possess a blackjack and the dealers up card is ace you can opt for receiving even money before checking the second card of the dealer.
Hit: To hit is to request for an additional card.
Split: This term denotes a hand with two original cards which are separated into two separate hands. This action is permitted if the first two cards are a pair, like an 8 and 8 or a 5 and 5 and so on.
Double down: After viewing the two dealt cards, the bet can be doubled. This termed as double down. After doubling down you can receive only a single additional card.
Surrender: You can give up a hand and forfeit half the wager. This action is termed as surrender.
Early surrender: You can surrender before the dealer verifies the hand containing blackjack. This is called early surrender.
Late surrender: The dealer checks the hand for a blackjack. If the hand features a blackjack, you cannot surrender.

Black jack rules:
If you have a 10 and an Ace or a face card right in the first set of cards dealt to you, you win the game automatically. In case the dealer exhibits a blackjack, it is a tie and you get back your wager.

If the dealer’s hand is bust, you win the game.

If your hand total is higher than dealer, you win.

If you get a hand total lower than dealer, you lose.
